145th anniversary of Pavel Bazhov

Celebration of 145 years since the birth of Pavel Petrovich Bazhov, Russian Writer Today 50 students from International School of Tomorrow visited the GlavUPDK center under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Moscow, where they were hosted to the celebration of 145 years since the birth of Pavel Petrovich Bazhov, a renowned writer of fairy tales.

We were introduced to his life and work which was centered in the Urals, a region of Russia rich in minerals. We also watched first hand his many famous fairy tales like The Stone Flower, The Mistress of the Copper Mountain and others. Later, they played games which the Urals dwellers normally play. The kids were excited to play amongst each other, as the energetic hostess explained the rules of the game. Later they had a workshop on making jewelleries. It was a time when students saw first hand the different kinds of stones, many precious, found in the Urals. They also tried their hands at making a simple jewellery, which they took home as a souvenir. The climax of the event was when we were invited to the theater hall for the play,

The Stone Flower presented by the Moscow Teatr of Young Viewers. The students were enchanted as they watched the young craftsman, Daniloi enter the domain of the mistress of the copper mountain, and how his fiancee came and saved him from her hold. After the event, we were treated to a rich reception. Our students were overjoyed at the opportunity to see first hand the rich culture of the Russian Federation and her many great writers.

We are grateful that our school is always considered for such amazing events and thank all staff and parents who made it possible for our students to witness this once in a lifetime event!
